Description

Another very quick photon collection of an area in the sky that I thought would be interesting. As with all of my galaxy images using my refractor with "lower" focal length I try to find areas that contain multiple brighter galaxies, and I certainly was not disappointed when I processed this image. NGC 4216 came out nicely, not as crisp and detailed as you can see it at higher focal lengths, but I am fairly happy with it. And all surrounding galaxies look quite nice too. I decided to go for my final image with this crop, I like the 4:3 ratio on Astrobin since it shows more; version E might be actually nicer but it is not presented in this way. Version F and its annotated version G shows the whole field of the image, not as "heavily" processed as the close up images, but still nice to see the enormous amount of galaxies that one can gather in the backyard in LRGB under Bortle 6.5 skies in a bit over 3 hours.
In the processing of this image I focused very much on the stars, trying to add the faintest ones from the L channel to the RGB image without blowing out the brighter stars. I believe I found a mechanism that makes that possible, I will try it out on the next image to see if this was not just by "accident". If successful I will add a corresponding comment on the next image (which will be my last galaxy image from my saved Spring stack).
